What is Seasonal Affective Disorder?

Studies have linked the lack of bright light during the winter to the cause of many types of depression. Typical symptoms are

  • problems with sleeping
  • overeating
  • anxiety
  • depression
  • loss of libido
  • symptoms disappear in spring, a sudden burst of extra energy my appear with improved appetite and re-newed interest in life
  • low level SAD may still be present in summer if the weather is dull and wet

What can be done?

Light therapy has been found to be one of the most effective ways to treat the condition. It also benefits people who work on shifts, suffer from jet lag, PMS and insomnia!
